Saturday, May 10, 2008 is World Fair Trade Day

In an effort to show solidarity in support of fair trade practices, the Fair Trade Resource Network and other fair trade partners are organizing the World's Largest Fair Trade Coffee Break at 3:00 pm Eastern time on Saturday, May 10th.

As a reseller of Fair Trade coffee, the L.A. Cafe and Coffee House plans to participate in this coffee break and we invite all of customers to assist in the effort to break the world record for number of people taking a coffee break. We'll be giving away samples of Fair Trade coffee for the occasion. If you aren't a coffee drinker, you may participate by drinking Fair Trade tea, yerba mate, chai, or chocolate. And if you can't make it at the 3:00 hour, we can count your participation if you take a coffee break anytime between noon and 5:00 pm.

In addition to free samples of Fair Trade coffee, we'll be offering a 10% discount on all Fair Trade products on Saturday, May 10th: chocolate, pounds of coffee, chocolate, and jewelry. And as always, we'll have plenty of Co-op America's Guides to Fair Trade for you to read, take home, and learn more about Fair Trade products. We'll be showing an 8-minute documentary on Fair Trade and a 14-minute movie about Fair Trade chocolate throughout the day.

Fair Trade Fortnight is from May 3rd - May 18th.

New Saturday Hours: 7:00am to 3:00pm - except of course this Saturday when we are participating in the World's Largest Coffee Break for Fair Trade from noon until 5:00pm (we'll still be open at 7:00am). We'll continue to open until 7:00pm during the week and later on Fridays with the open mike night.

Facility Rental: The coffee house is available to rent for special events, meetings, parties, etc. during the hours we are closed (such as 7:00-9:00pm on weekdays, Saturday afternoon/evenings, and Sunday). We can serve all our regular beverages for those events, or we can plan something special. Ask for more details if interested. Let everyone know!

Organic Syrups: Just arrived - the first flavors that we're adding are Vanilla and Caramel. These syrups are made with organic evaporated cane juice and the finest natural/organic flavors, and are GMO free, Gluten Free, Kosher and Vegan.
